Ian introduced me to bird watching when we were students in Cambridge...my love for him & birdwatching grew over the 50 happy years birdwatching in Britain & abroad, taking part in surveys & eagerly anticipating the arrival of curlews on the Moor behind our house & the shallows who nested in our porch. A headful of knowledge which he quiety shared with family and friends, recognising birds by songs as well as sight. He advocated & campaigned for nature throughout his life.
